I read in the news over the weekend that more Americans families are having a harder time feeding their families than Chinese families in china. That thought is really heart breaking for me, because American’s don’t know how to use the land and live off of what they have. I think one of the major problems is that more people are losing their jobs and the prices for food is going way up, and we are having to import a lot of vegetables from other countries for lower prices, which hurts the America farmers.
We need to subsidize the cost increase of produce by making our own gardens. To start an organic garden there is an initial investment cost. In the long run it will definitely be cheaper than paying 20 to 40 dollars on just produce alone each week at the grocery store. It can also be a great activity for family’s to do together. Not only can you spend quality time together, but also it’s a great opportunity to teach your families that veggies come from the earth and not the produce section of your local store.
The way to do this is to building gardens in our backyards and growing our own produce. After the first garden is grown take a few of the fruits and vegetables that we have grown and save their seeds. The next year plant the seeds from the year before just like they did it 100 years ago. That way we can save money year after year and feed our families for pennies on the dollar.
