The European Night Crawlers Bin

I use a 45 gallon tote that I have drilled a few holes in the top of it to let the air in. I switched to the 45 gallon tote from a 18 gallon tote because they were escaping the bin because they where overcrowded. I use the Christmas lights to keep them in the bedding so they don’t wonder.

This is what i mean that they love to wonder around. I shut off the Christmas lights last night and this is what happens. It is very normal for this that is why they are European NIGHT CRAWLERS. Just pick them back up and place them back into the bedding. They will be just fine. Just remember to leave the lights on.

This is what vermicompost looks like when it is around 65% finished it still needs a while to go. The secret of making good VC and NOT killing your worms if not over feeding them. As you can see there is no food in there right now. Don’t be scared they are just fine. They are not going hungry or starving they are eating their bedding. The more bedding they eat the faster you will have VC. Don’t worry I’ll feed them in a few days.

This is a nice handful of the bedding. I have a few nice size worms there. I also picked up a cocoon that you can see very abundant which is the brown round thing in almost the middle of the picture. the browner it is the closer it is to hatch. This one will be hatching in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
